Location, Location, LOCATION!

What are we missing in Tucker?

So, speaking of "location" - most Tucker folks have probably noticed that the restaurant has closed leaving the building vacant. And, what a great "location" it is!  It's a large free-standing, renovated building with a huge wrap-around deck.

It's always exciting to see growth in our area. And, a lot of rumors are beginning to brew as to who will be moving into this great Tucker "location."  So, how do you feel about it?  What would YOU like to see move in?  What are we missing in Tucker?

Three words: Pig N Chick

I'd like to see something that would become a destination for people besides locals. Not sure what that would be, but I'd think it would have to have entertainment, not just food and beverage. That said, I'd love to have a restaurant that offers weekend brunch. I also like what Napoleons is doing in Oak Grove. Something along those lines would be nice.

The only thing that has a chance is BBQ, Blues & Beer
Art Wood June 15, 2012 at 10:22 am
Tina, if the rumors are true, you will be very happy happy girl...at least on the BBQ and Beer....Not sure about the blues!

I missed the "rumors are beginning to brew" hint (?) when I read this post initially. That and Art's post indicate a brew pub that does BBQ might be coming. So is it a new business or a new venture for an established outfit? Can't wait to find out.
Funny, Brian! But, no. I know of nothing other than the Fox Brothers rumor. But, now that they're moving into Maddy's spot, it's doubtful that they would open in Tucker at the very same time. But, we can still dream, right? (I think that BBQ is the general desire of the masses, though. It gets MY vote, at least!)

We'll get to the bottom of this, don't worry..

Some old fashioned reporting proved effective after I spotted workers preparing to clean the sign there about an hour ago. I asked what was moving in and the guy said "BBQ." I asked if it was a chain and he said "new business." No word on brews or blues.
FANTASTIC NEWS!! Thanks, Brian!

Stay tuned, folks. Just contacted the new owner and I will post details about the new restaurant shortly.

Couldn't get much better than Fox Bros., with a parking lot.
Brian Crowe June 16, 2012 at 04:48 pm
Fox Bros. would be wonderful there.
The Dude June 16, 2012 at 04:56 pm
and some live music
I think everybody is going to be pleased with the answer once it's officially announced! I look forward to seeing you all there - frequently!
Brian Crowe June 18, 2012 at 07:09 pm
The name of the place is up on the marquee (see new pic above).
Awesome, Brian! Thanks so much! I can't wait for it to open.
Kevin Madigan (Editor) June 18, 2012 at 07:54 pm
Correct. It's called the Greater Good Barbecue, confirmed to me by Clay Harper, owner of the Fellini's Pizza and La Fonda Latina chains. There is no connection to Fox Bros. I'm working on an article about it.
Brian Crowe June 19, 2012 at 02:02 am
This could be a great spot. Fellinis and La Fonda are institutions in metro Atlanta, with a proven track record of success in a variety of neighborhoods. I'm excited.
The Dude June 19, 2012 at 12:04 pm
Give me some Live Music and I will come a lot more than without....but that's just me
Brian Crowe June 19, 2012 at 12:18 pm
It's certainly a building that could accommodate live music. I'll visit a lot more often if they have good beers on tap, too.

Stopped by today at lunch. Official word is that they are opening for business tonight at 5pm. Could not get an advanced look at the menu but spoke to a guy who said it would be typical BBQ menu. Did not mention brew selection.
I hope they thrive. That location has been a business "black hole".
Kevin Madigan (Editor) July 12, 2012 at 05:54 pm
I interviewed one of the owners, Clay Harper, last week and will have an article ready shortly. They are indeed having a "soft opening" today without a lot of hoopla so that they can get the kinks out.
Terry Funderburke July 16, 2012 at 09:26 am
Very disappointed! Maybe after their “soft opening” the menu will expand but for now not much choice; sandwich, ribs, chicken. It’s a counter service fast food arrangement with prices of a sit down restaurant.
If you follow me on Facebook, you've heard my review from "opening night." The place looks great inside and the food was good, in my opionion. However, there were some small problems that I feel certain will be corrected. (although I did ask if these issues were related to the "soft opening" and I was told, "No. We're just trying to keep it simple.")
The issues that I had a problem with are fixable, though, in my opinion. So, I'm optimistic. Adding a kid's menu, fries, wine (they already sell beer) and to-go boxes would make the place perfect, in my opinion. The atmosphere was great. The food was good. The music was fun. The deck was nice. The employees were very nice. I will go back! You should, too! I've heard that now they're saying, YES they're making changes due to feedback from the "soft opening." So, give them another try soon. Let's try to support our (few) local restaurants! We wanted BBQ in Tucker and now we have it. Let's make it work!
Lisa Stone July 16, 2012 at 04:30 pm
The deck is great, but if you're inside it's extremely noisy because there is no sound buffering in the form of carpet or curtains or cloth of any sort. Food was very good, but not a place to have a conversation.

Well,in Tucker and many other places it's not humans moving into areas that were once for wildlifeRead More only. The coyotes have no memory of that. This is part of a general acclimitization of wildlife (deer, coyote, fox, turkey - even bear) to suburban and even quasi-urban conditions. Food is plentiful as are hiding places, and enemies are few. Coyotes do not need to be eradicated, but their needs to be a removal and/or sterilization program in areas where coyotes are a threat.
Tom Hill June 17, 2013 at 06:54 pm
Yes I do believe in protecting wildlife and preserving our natural world as best as possible at thisRead More point. And yes I think we've messed up our planet by over populating as humans. Having said that...now that we have densely populated urban & suburban areas as in the metro Atlanta area including tucker, I think coyotes or rattlesnakes or other carnivorous animals need to be kept to a minimum in densely populated areas...the solution is for us to have zero population growth & preserve lands where wildlife & exist without us encroaching on them...but coyote attacks in backyards 10 miles from the center of a city of 7 million people...nah, something's wrong with that...animal control...do your job!!!
Sandra Williams June 17, 2013 at 07:27 pm
I am unapologetic about our human numbers on this wonderful planet! This bit of land that I careRead More for, "10 miles from the center of a city of 7 million people" is well-fenced. I do think that Animal Control ought to trap and remove coyotes that threaten my pets! Evidently the coyote wasn't rabid, thank goodness! But this was a LARGE animal, large enough to be a threat to small children. If they run and hunt in packs, they would be dangerous to humans, I think. So it's not just pets.
