Robert Weintraub - Book Discussion and Signing
We celebrate the major league baseball season with a terrific new book about baseball written by one of our own, Decatur's Robert Weintraub (author of the 2011 bestseller "The House That Ruth Built"). His new book is "The Victory Season: The End of World War II and the Birth of Baseball's Golden Age." It begins with the remarkable 1946 season when stars like Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio and Stan Musial returned from the war to set off one of the sports' greatest seasons that culminated in an epic seven-game World Series. Soon after that the legendary Jackie Robinson would make his debut, and baseball would never be the same. It's a fascinating story whether you're old enough to remember or are hearing about it for the first time. Weintraub is a fine writer whose work appears on ESPN and major newspapers around the country. We'll have copies of his book available here for sale and signing.
