AARP Talks about Caregiving

AARP Georgia speakers Dr. Lois Ricci and Barry Reid will discuss issues facing families as they care for their aging relatives and friends on Thursday,

Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Street Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church of Tucker, 2367 Main St.

The Tucker Civic Association is joining in presenting the community-awareness discussion, which is open to the public.

“Many Tucker residents fall into the category known as the Sandwich Generation,” said Reid, state president of AARP and a Tucker resident. “They still have childrearing responsibilities and they now have to assist their aging parents. We are going to touch on strategies to make the process smoother and outline resources that might be helpful.”

Questions that the program will address include:

  • What are the chances you’ll need long-term care – or that a loved one will?
  • What/who are caregivers?
  • What issues do caregivers – and

the recipients of long-term care – face?
Speaker Lois Ricci is a geriatric nurse practitioner/educator and consultant, who holds master’s degrees in gerontology and nursing education and a doctorate in adult education. Dr. Ricci has worked in the field of aging for over 35 years.

Speaker Barry Reid is the former administrator of the Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs (now Consumer Protection) and has been involved in aging issues and their financial impacts since 2011.
