Tucker Together Morphs Into 'Tucker 2014'

New advocacy group needs volunteers to populate committees such as Fundraising, Neighborhood Meetings, Planning and Research.

The Tucker Together group held its last scheduled informational meeting Monday night at First Christian Church. The organization was formed to provide a forum for discussion on potential cityhood for Tucker and has hosted several gatherings this year.

"To move Tucker forward we need a group that will not be restricted by its 501(c)(3) status," said committee member Sonja Szubski at the conclusion of the meeting. She introduced Tucker 2014 as "a group of Pro-City of Tucker neighbors that are working in conjunction with Tucker Together and taking up the fundraising for the feasibility study."

The fundraising seems to be going fine so far. "We raised over $17,000 in cash and pledges in one night bringing our total to just over $20,000," Szubski told Patch late Tuesday. "Exciting stuff!"

Tucker advocate Jim Spencer estimated Monday's crowd to be about 140. At last week's Tucker Business Association lunch, Tucker Together member Honey Van De Kreke lamented declining attendance at TT meetings and said, "we can't operate in a vacuum. Don't make us the fall guy. It's up to everyone to make their desires known - we can't do it alone."

Van De Kreke also spoke on Monday (see video) in reference to Tucker 2014 and said, "now is the time to act."
