Tucker Historical Society's Christmas Message

What a year it's been.

2012 was another great year for Tucker and Tucker Historical Society! Thanks to our board, our members and friends, gardeners and sponsors and businesses who gave of their time, talents, donations and personal energy to the success of our endeavors and events - the Tucker Day booth, the Tucker Historical Society Garden Tour, Tucker's 120th Anniversary Celebration, Browning Courthouse Day...

Some of our accomplishments this year include: Tucker's 120th Anniversary Celebration held at Browning Courthouse on June 23 brought the community together in a historical way. Commissioner Elaine Boyer and representatives of Tucker Civic Association, Tucker Business Association, Old Town Tucker Merchants Association and Main Street Tucker Alliance joined in to help celebrate the day.

We officially introduced the latest donations to Tucker Historical Society (the first Post Office desk circa 1892 and the old but sturdy church bench from the early 1900's). A history lesson was included along with BBQ from The Old Tucker Fountain, live music from bluegrass band - Tucker Station String Band and Yellow Llama was on hand to make mementos with tee shirts and totes signifying the day.

Participating with OTTMA - Old Town Tucker Merchants Association - on some of their events, especially Christmas on Main and continued assistance on historical information for future markers for some of the downtown buildings (to be installed later in 2013).

Establishing a Tucker Historical Society Facebook page which now has 122 friends! Joining forces with Friends of Johns Homestead this year. The new and renewed energy for this property is exciting. After years of Clean Up Days and behind the scenes meetings with community leaders to create a real place for meaningful fundraising we now have new and thoughtful consideration of the future of this old homestead and surrounding property.

As you've probably heard, the Christmas Decorating Contest has grown with our friends at Tucker Business Association and Main Street Tucker Alliance joining in on the fun and raising the award money for the winners. Congratulations to the 2012 winners: 1st place - Tucker Flower Shop; 2nd place - the Custom Frame Shop; 3rd place - Tucker Shoe Service, and Honorable Mention went to Matthews Cafeteria.

Yellow Llama.com has an online account for Tucker Historical Society and we invite you to check out the offerings there for those last minute gift ideas for that special Tucker person that has almost everything. Yellow Llama is located on Main Street now so go visit them in person too.

As you see, it's been a busy year so thanks again for all you do for Tucker history and for Tucker Historical Society!

See you next year!
Harry, Trish, Vicki and Kathy
