Bites Nearby: The Rock House

The Rock House offers Southern charm and seriously good food at reasonable prices

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out.

Here is this week's choice:.

The Rock House offers southern fare with a sophisticated twist in an elegant and tasteful, but cozy setting in the oldest building in downtown Stone Mountain -- formerly the Sycamore Grill -- and at affordable prices.

Chef Stephanie Falk serves up the ordinary extraordinarily: Β There's the Stone Mountain Climber Burger with mushrooms, tomato, sweet onion reduction, Swiss cheese and homemade mayonnaise; and blackberry chicken salad sandwiches. There's the club sandwich with smoked ham, roasted turkey, applewood smoked bacon, and well, you get the idea.

The more ambitious entrees include coconut-encrusted grouper with jalapeno jelly and a slow-roasted half-chicken that's been soaked in wine and herbs.Β

Oh, and appetizers? Don't miss the Canadian steamed black mussels, in a rich tomato and white wine sauce. Or try the sweet potato wedge fries with a blue cheese sauce for dipping.
