Happy Anniversary!

It was on Feb. 8, 2013 that Michael Thurmond was hired as the Interim Superintendent of the DeKalb County School District.

Speaking only for myself, I have to say it was a good decision.

Yes. It was made illegally, behind closed doors.

No. He doesn't always tell the truth.

No. He has not begun the removal of "friends and family" which will be required before the culture of the district can change.

Yes. The district still has issues of transparency, communication, and trust.

However, when you look back at all the problems the district was swimming in 12 months ago, Superintendent Thurmond has done an amazing job.

A job nobody wanted.

For that, I want to acknowledge the anniversary of when it started and say, "Congratulations Superintendent Thurmond."
