Save Us All From Lakeside's Political Time Machine

This political game playing is getting really old.

Do you get the feeling you have been here before? Are you getting tired of it, yet? The lies, the insults? The snide remarks. Yup. You guessed it. Team Lakeside is back and they will not stop until even the kids at their own namesake school are ashamed of them. This political game playing is getting really old. I don't even want to see a "Lake" or a "Side" for a while after Monday's meeting okay?

Well, I guess you can't blame the Lakeside City Alliance for trying, right? I mean, who cares if the school system loses its accreditation now? These folks have already told us that their children will be graduating this year. So, they're all set. They do not even want to talk about the school system. That's how little it concerns them.

In fact, what exactly DOES concern them? Why are they pitching this whole "Lakeside City" thing now anyway? There was a meeting tonight at at Tucker Middle School, but was it truly an appropriate venue for a pitch for a new city based on nothing that anyone around here can ever recall asking for?

Zoning control? Who wants that headache? And why? Personally, I think DeKalb's zoning codes are great. We could use a little help with the yard signs when people get out of control with them, but that isn't ususally very dificult to do. And, that's zoning code enforcement. They did not want to handle that one themselves. Just the zoning code making, not the enfocing.Β

Okay, next? They want control of the parks. What parks? There appears to be only one large-sized park in question and eveyrone who uses it thinks it is great. No need to change over to a new regime just yet. They haven't mentioned creating any new parks or exactly what they plan to do to the old parks. I'm not even sure if they have ever used a DeKalb Park.

And last, public safety. They seem to get this one mixed up with "police force" from time to time, but there actually is a difference. If someone breaks into your car and steals your GPS, you call the police because there has been a crime committed against your property, but you are not in immediate danger. It is not a "safety" issue. Β

If you are exceeding the speed limit on a residential road, you are endangering the safety of others. You may get pulled over by a traffic officer or you might get a ticket in the mail from one of the many traffic light cameras that your new city will likely be showing off so that you think your money is being well spent. You will likely complain after a year or so when you realize that you cannot go anywhere without getting a ticket in the mail and you are likely contributing more than your "fair share" to the "pubic safety" coffers. But, you will be the one committing the crime, then, so how much sympathy do you expect you will get from "Lakeside?"

They will do or say just about anything if it would increase their property value. The only problem - the buyers are all gone. They went broke trying to keep up with the mortgage, the taxes, the extras for all your fancy Lakeside things. And the rest of us? We're in Tucker because we're more practical. We only buy what we can afford. So, keep your great schools. We're working on the rest of them and helping a lot of kids in the process. It's actually quite rewarding. You should try it sometime when you arne't out there trying to sell more houses, that is.

No, Lakeside will forget they even heard of Tucker. In fact, several of them will likely got lost on their way home on Monday. That's how often they head out in "this direction." After all, they are still bitter about that Tucker football championship last year and the person who started this whole Lakeside City thing is the owner for a landscaping and turf company or didn't you hear that part? Yup, your milegage rate went up, property value went down, parking ticket to driver ratio increased at the same rate as your personal privacy. And, if you call 911, you better get ready to wait a while. The dispatch is over at "Lakeside" and they don't like to be called outside the perimeter on weekends if they can help it. Someone might try to steal a GPS from a parked car while they are gone and they couldn't let that happen!
