Tucker's Holiday Events for Business Owners

The president of the Tucker Business Association writes about what's going on in December for members.

Now that we are officially in the holiday season, I wanted to remind everyone of the exciting stuff we have coming up over the next month or so.

Saturday, 1 Dec. 5.30 p.m. Tucker Business Association, along with the Main Street Tucker Alliance and the Tucker Historical Society, will be judging the Downtown Tucker Business Holiday Decorating Contest.

Businesses within the downtown area, as defined by Brockett Road, LaVista Road, Lawrenceville Highway and Tucker Industrial Road, are encouraged to celebrate the holidays with festive and imaginative decorations for their windows and buildings.

Volunteers are needed to review Tucker-area storefronts for holiday festooning. Judges will meet at Matthews at 5:30 p.m. to begin the judging for first, second and third place winners. Afterwards Main Street Tucker Alliance will treat the volunteer judges to some adult cheer at Local 7 on Main Street.

Thursday, 6 Dec. 6 - 9 p.m.  Art Wood, with Hometown Lenders, will host a TBA After Hours Event at Smoke Rise Country Club. There will be door prizes, fantastic food, drink specials and plenty of festive networking. The event benefits The Salvation Army; admission is $10 or two new, unwrapped toys. (Feel free to bring more than two–c’mon, it’s a good cause.) Come early (3 p.m.) and join in on Art’s nine-hole golf scramble for $20. RSVP for either the After Hours Event or the golf (or both) to Art Wood at 404.909.3567 or art@artwoodonline.com.

Thursday, 13 Dec. 6 - 8:30 p.m. Mark your calendars for TBA’s Annual Christmas Party, at the Hampton Inn Northlake, 3400 Northlake Parkway in Tucker. Come share in the fellowship and toast the holidays. Watch your inbox next week for the "official” invite with the RSVP form, but here are the details:

  1. $10 per person, payable at the door.
  2. We need door prizes! No need to tell us in advance, just bring something to add to the pile! (But make sure your business card is attached to it so we can properly recognize you for your contribution.) Bill Rosenfeld with Rosenfeld Jewelry is once again bringing diamonds for a door prize.
  3. Art Wood with Hometown Lenders will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Salvation Army. If you miss his event the week before, this is a good chance to help a good cause.

Thursday, 17 January, 7:30 a.m. The first meeting of the New Year for Tucker Business Association will be held at Matthews Cafeteria on Main Street. Meet the new 2013 board of directors; our guest speaker will be certified financial planner and author Mark DiGiovanni, who will offer tips on starting the New Year on the right financial foot.

Remember, the TBA Holiday Party is the December member meeting, so there will be no members’ breakfast at Matthews in December.

We look forward to seeing all the TBA members (and guests) at the various events in the coming months.

Sincerely,

Burke Brennan
President, Tucker Business Association
