Tucker Church Helping Displaced Ace Hardware Employees

United Methodist opens an account for donations.

Lawrenceville Road United Methodist in Tucker, known for its community outreach, has established an account to receive donations for the 35 Handy Ace Hardware employees who are without jobs since the tragic fire that totally destroyed the popular Tucker business.

Many folks in our congregation are craftsman, hobbyists or do-it-your-self-ers and depended on Handy Ace for just the right part, tool or other items at just the right time - almost on demand.

Jim Nall, a church member and regular Ace customer, said “the fact that the employees are well versed in the stock and are helpful in finding the items we all look for saves time and costly mistakes. Many have families and expenses and the loss of their jobs is devastating.”

“Anyone who has visited the Handy Ace Hardware knows about the many valued employees who are much like good neighbors in their friendly greeting of the customers and their helpfulness in finding items. Our wanting to reach out to the employees in some way as a neighboring Methodist congregation in an expression of our affection for them and appreciation of their present plight has led us to establish this special account at the urging of our United Methodist Men,” said Reverend Kathy McFarland, Pastor.

Anyone wanting to help those employees should mail their check in any amount made out to LRUMC and marked simply ACE on the memo line. The address is 3142 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, Ga. 30084. This donation is tax deductible. All donations will be distributed equally to the employees with none kept by the church. Donations will be received for an unspecified time but they are desparately needed NOW.

For further information call the church at 770 939 3717, or, if after hours, 770 856 1377. Email inquiries may be sent to jbs59512@aol.com or LRUMC@bellsouth.net.

Jack Sartain is United Methodist Men president and produces the Music for Missions Series.

Well,in Tucker and many other places it's not humans moving into areas that were once for wildlifeRead More only. The coyotes have no memory of that. This is part of a general acclimitization of wildlife (deer, coyote, fox, turkey - even bear) to suburban and even quasi-urban conditions. Food is plentiful as are hiding places, and enemies are few. Coyotes do not need to be eradicated, but their needs to be a removal and/or sterilization program in areas where coyotes are a threat.

Yes I do believe in protecting wildlife and preserving our natural world as best as possible at thisRead More point. And yes I think we've messed up our planet by over populating as humans. Having said that...now that we have densely populated urban & suburban areas as in the metro Atlanta area including tucker, I think coyotes or rattlesnakes or other carnivorous animals need to be kept to a minimum in densely populated areas...the solution is for us to have zero population growth & preserve lands where wildlife & exist without us encroaching on them...but coyote attacks in backyards 10 miles from the center of a city of 7 million people...nah, something's wrong with that...animal control...do your job!!!

I am unapologetic about our human numbers on this wonderful planet! This bit of land that I careRead More for, "10 miles from the center of a city of 7 million people" is well-fenced. I do think that Animal Control ought to trap and remove coyotes that threaten my pets! Evidently the coyote wasn't rabid, thank goodness! But this was a LARGE animal, large enough to be a threat to small children. If they run and hunt in packs, they would be dangerous to humans, I think. So it's not just pets.
