Taste of Tucker Looking for Volunteers, Sponsors

By Paul Ellingson

The fourth annual Taste of Tucker, to be held Saturday, Oct. 19, 1 – 6 p.m., on Main Street, is going to be bigger and better than ever, featuring fantastic fare from the community’s growing line-up of savory restaurants.

Event organizers know they will need more volunteers and sponsors this year to successfully feed and entertain a crowd projected at more than 5,000 gourmands.

“If you can spare an hour or two that Saturday, we’d love to have you help host the party,” said event coordinator Karen Wood. She and her husband, Art, originators of the festival, promise a wonderful experience. “It’s personally rewarding to work for a fun community event. It is work, but we see lots of smiles on the volunteers’ faces because it is for the greater good.”

More than simply building community spirit with offerings from local chefs and musicians, Taste of Tucker donates proceeds to NETworks, a coalition of 20 local churches whose mission is helping the poor with emergency provisions and funds for housing and utilities.

That philanthropic focus and the opportunity to work with community-minded neighbors have drawn sufficient volunteers and sponsors in the past. This year, more are needed.

Volunteers will help with distributing posters throughout the community, setting up the event, seeing that restaurant booths have everything they need, directing traffic, ensuring that trash barrels are emptied, tearing down the site, and conducting final clean-up.

As always, sponsors are needed to fund the fun. A list of sponsorship levels is available, beginning at $250 and increasing to a stage sponsorship for $1000.  Depending on the amount donated, sponsors can have their names and logos in programs and on banners. All sponsors will receive a decal to put on a wall or window, identifying them as an official supporter.
