Michaels Warns of Possible Customer Data Breach

The arts and crafts retailer has stores all over metro Atlanta, including Tucker.

A popular retailer with stores all over metro Atlanta is the latest business to warn that some customer payment information may have been compromised.

In a letter posted on the company website, Michaels CEO Chuck Rubin said, "We recently learned of possible fraudulent activity on some U.S. payment cards that had been used at Michaels, suggesting we may have experienced a data security attack."

Michaels has a location at 4000 LaVista Road in Tucker.

The letter added, "We recommend that you remain vigilant by reviewing your account statements for unauthorized charges. If you believe your payment card may have been affected, you should immediately contact your bank or card issuer. If we find as part of our investigation that any of our customers were affected, we will offer identity protection and credit monitoring services to them at no cost."

The Texas-based company said that it is working with federal law enforcement and third-party security experts on the situation. It will post updates on its website.

Neiman Marcus and Target, which also has a Tucker location, recently reported data breaches involving customer payment information.
