Georgia Tech's Economics Chief Addresses Tucker Business Association

Dr. Christine Ries will ask "Are Americans Taking the Economy for Granted?"

The Tucker Business Association has announced the guest speaker for its April breakfast meeting, scheduled for this Thursday, April 18 at 7.30 a.m., at Matthews Cafeteria on Main Street in Tucker.

Christine Ries, chair of economics at Georgia Tech, will pose the question "Are Americans Taking the Economy for Granted?"

U.S. average per capita income has nearly doubled since 1967, yet in today’s world, roughly 40% of the world’s population lives on less than $2 per day. The national debt has increased over 450% in that time, from $344 billion to over $16 trillion.

The Congressional Business Office estimates that by 2050, the U.S. will be spending 85% of its budget on interest payments for this massive debt. How long can the U.S. economy sustain itself?
