Bruster's Hosts Red Cross Blood Drive

Tucker residents can help save lives and enjoy free ice cream.

Tucker residents have the opportunity to help save a life and enjoy free ice cream! On Monday, April 25 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the Bruster's located at 4535 Hugh Howell Road. All donors will receive a free scoop of Bruster's ice cream.

Appointments are not required, but you can schedule a donation time slot by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or go to redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code "brutuk."

Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be feeling generally healthy on the day of the blood donation. A confidential health history will be taken, and a Red Cross staff member will check the blood pressure, pulse, body temperature and hemoglobin (iron) levels of the donor.

After donating blood, the Red Cross recommends drinking extra water and avoiding heavy lifting or exertion for the rest of the day. Most people feel fine after donating. Red Cross staff members will be available to answer questions about the donation and recovery process.

According to the American Red Cross website, www.redcrossblood.org, someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds. Over 38,000 blood donations are needed every day to meet this need. Plan to give blood. Your donation makes a difference!
