Get Your Hands Dirty

Learn something new and have a great time during instructional workshops at clay studio

Christine Winokur and Martie Seay, owners of Tucker's Zen and Now Clay Studio, were kind enough to chat with last month about their business. Located at 2534-D Royal Place, Zen and Now is the only craft studio of its kind in the area. We want to make sure that Tuckerians take full advantage of their offerings – including these upcoming workshops.

Zen of Throwing ~ Jan. 22, 2011 ~ 1:00 – 4:30 p.m.

This workshop is ideal for those wanting to improve upon their wheel throwing techniques. It's a great “touch-up” class, cites Zen and Now's newsletter, and it will help you refine skills such as centering, pulling up and opening. There will also be time spent on pulling cylinders.

Learn how to make a hand-built platter during this workshop – no previous experience is required to participate. What's included? Clay for the project and bisque firing. Non-students can pay an additional $15.00 dollars for glaze firing, and for current students, this extra is included.

Class size is limited to twelve students. Fees are as follows: $65.00 dollars for non-students, $55.00 dollars for current students. The instructor for this workshop is Mariella Owens.

Animal Head Banks ~ Feb. 5, 2011 ~ 1:00 – 4:30 p.m.

Many of us had piggy banks as children; “How about elephant or doggy banks?” asks Zen and Now's newsletter. If not, this is the workshop for you. Children 6-years-old and up, as well as imaginative adults, are invited to take part.

Like the serving platter workshop, you'll leave with more than just experience. You'll take home a handmade, useful item – one that you created yourself!

Class size is limited to twelve students. Fees are as follows: $45.00 dollars for non-students, $35.00 dollars for current students. Linda Taylor will teach this workshop.

Patch will strive to keep you abreast of upcoming workshops, shows and events associated with Tucker's Zen and Now Clay Studio, but you can learn more at www.zenandnowclaystudio.com, as well.
