Get Out: A Look at What to Do This Weekend

There's more than football going on

It's Thursday and you've got no idea what you'll do for the weekend.

1. "SIRENS" AT AURORA THEATRE (www.auroratheatre.com)

When/where: Friday-Sunday, Feb. 4-6, Aurora Theatre, 128 Pike Street, Lawrenceville.

Why Go: It's the last weekend for the Aurora's play, which tells the story of Sam and Rose, a married couple of 25 years who go on a cruise to try to bring back the spark. It's a comedy trip to the mythical Greek Isles.

Pricing: Tickets are $14-$30.

2. AUTHOR EMILIE P. BUSH (www.thelittleshopofartsandantiques.com)

When/where:  Saturday, Feb. 5, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., , 94 Main Street, Lilburn.

Why Go: Lilburn's new art and antique space welcomes Emilie P. Bush, a Steampunk author and former host of Georgia Public Radio's program "Georgia Gazette." Her book, "Chenda and the Airship Brofman" is a story about adventure and self-discovery, and it will be on sale at the shop. Bush will do a reading at noon and and signing afterward. Coffee, cookies and light snacks will be available to all who attend. 

Pricing: Free.

3. PARKVIEW HIGH HOOPS (www.parkviewpantherbasketball.com)

When/where: Friday, Feb. 4, 6:30 p.m., Parkview High School, 998 Cole Drive, Lilburn.

Why Go: Catch a local basketball team in action when Parkview hosts neighboring Shiloh High (girls game begins at 6:30 p.m.; the boys follow at 8). You don't have to have a kid on the team to get caught up in the action.

Pricing: A steal of a deal for $5.

4. “IN LIEU OF FLOWERS” (www.lionhearttheatre.org)

When/where: Friday-Saturday, Feb. 4-5, 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 6, 2 p.m., Lionheart Theatre, Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center, 10 College St., Norcross.

Why Go: By Atlanta Playwright Daphne Mintz, the story is about love, romance and self-discovery after a mysterious meeting at a funeral. Get warm and fuzzy away from the cold outside.

Pricing: Tickets are $12-$15 (includes dessert and beverage)

5. UGA ICE DOGS IN ACTION (www.ugahockey.com)

When/where: Friday, Feb. 4, 9:30 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 5, 10 p.m., Duluth Ice Forum, 2300 Satellite Boulevard, Duluth.

Why Go: Check out the University of Georgia's non-varsity hockey team playing teams from Tennessee (Friday) and Georgia Tech (Saturday). These guys play for the love of the game.

Pricing: $5 adults, $2 students.
