Chorale II Spring Concert: A Heritage of Russian Sound

Chorale II Spring Concert: A Heritage of Russian Sound This season's Spring Concert by Chorale II explores - and celebrates - the beauty of Russian choral music. Several composers of the Romantic period will be featured - including Rachmaninoff, Ippolitoff-Ivanoff, Bortniansky, Gretchaninoff, and Tschesnokoff - along with traditional folk music, two of which will be performed in the Russian language. The program is rounded off with selections from the Broadway musical, "Fiddler on the Roof." Special guests will be Troika Balalaika. This unique ensemble performs on balalaikas, the ancient gusli, and an assortment of authentic percussion. Traditionally dressed in brightly-colored costumes and singing in Russian, Ukrainian, and Romany, the ensemble recreates a sense of Old World history and the spirited excitement of Russian folk melodies and rhythms. The concert is at 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Briarlake Baptist Church, 3715 LaVista Road, Decatur, GA. Admission is free. Donations will be gratefully received. Information: Dr. James T. McRaney, director, 770-939-1394.
