Trees of Tucker is a new project conceived by Georgia Master Gardeners of Dekalb. The co-leaders are Dawn Hines and Lee Leach, who last week invited the public to a tour of the trees on the grounds of the Tucker Recreation Center.
The tour's program describes the project as an endeavor to illustrate to the public the value of trees in our environment. Not only are they beautiful to behold but they offer us shade in the summer to keep us and our homes cool, they take in the carbon dioxide we breathe out and give off oxygen that we breathe in. They also add to property value, provide wood for homes and industry and nesting places for birds and small mammals. Some provide fruit and nuts for the sustenance of man and wildlife.
