Rain Held Off For Annual Christmas Event

The rain broke just in time for the annual Christmas on Main Street event on Tuesday night. Despite the dreary weather, the crowds came out to welcome Santa and participate in the small-town street festival that has been a Tucker tradition for years.

Just after 7 p.m., , who was emceeing the event, announced that Santa was on his way. He arrived in an open-top classic convertible and waved to the crowd before getting out of the car in front of the tree (located in front of ), touching his finger to his nose, and lighting the tree. Once the 16-foot tree was lit, Santa made his way into the old Rotagilla building (which will reopen as a Mexican grill in early January) and visited with children and had pictures taken.

The Masonic Lodge sponsored a tent offering free hotdogs, cider, hot chocolate, and marshmallow roasting/s’mores making. , , Sweet Dee’s bakery (opening soon on Main Street), and all had food for sale, as well. 

There was an ornament-making children’s craft area set up in the Garden Enthusiast, and children were encouraged to take their ornaments home or to put them on the Tucker tree. Choirs and bands, including the Northlake Children’s Choir, the Sons of Grace (TFUMC), the Tucker First Baptist Choir, and The Forgiven (TFUMC), performed Christmas carols throughout the night. To complete the mood, the train rode through on three different occasions with the conductor stopping the train and getting out to wave to the kids on the last pass.

The new streetlight wreaths, provided and hung by the Tucker Business Association, helped decorate the street for the holidays. The tree was donated by the Tucker Cruisers, with decorating help provided by the Tucker Business Association, the Old Tucker Merchants Association, the Main Street Tucker Alliance, and the Cofer Brothers. With construction complete, the Christmas event back on after a year’s hiatus, and two new restaurants opening in the next few months, the Main Street revitalization project continues to progress.
