Historical Society Looks Back

Cofer Bros. on Main Street hosted a look at Tucker history. The exhibit continues all this week.

By Harry Powell, Tucker Historical Society

Our visit at Cofer Brothers on Saturday was really enjoyable! Chip made us feel right at home and had all their archive files available to look through along with many framed photographs and articles on display.

This was set up in the back room on the right side of the store and Chip said he would leave it up for most of this week, if anyone else wanted to stop by and take a look. Trish is working on scanning some of those items to add to our archives too. Chip gave a good overview of the history of the business and Paul Thomas who retired with Cofer Brothers shared some of his memories too.

Paul's sister, Mary Bolton recalled her time as a Saturday helper when she was a youngster too. Even Trish England worked at Cofer Brothers during her college years. During the visit, Harry presented Chip and the Cofer Brothers family with a certificate of appreciation for their many (94) years of service to Tucker.

Afterward we were invited to the Cofer Car Barn to visit the fantastic car collection that was started by Chip's dad and mother, Gene and Nita Cofer. We were glad to see some media coverage from the Smoke Signal and Tucker Patch too.

With about 20 people attending, it was a very good morning to learn more about the long history of Cofer Brothers. Go to their website to see the history page and maybe do a little shopping for your next home project there too. I hope you had a good summer and look forward to seeing you at our September meeting.

This year Labor Day is on the 2nd, so we'll plan for the following Monday, Sept 9. P.S. Put Browning Courthouse Day on your calendar - Saturday Oct. 12, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

See you in September!
Harry
