A family's guide to fun activities and events for the weekend of March 25th - 27th.

Hey Moms! We have another weekend of gorgeous weather coming up, so it's a great time to enjoy the outdoors before the bugs and heat get too bad. I have several great outdoor activities for your family to enjoy this weekend including the Sky Ride at Stone Mountain Park, nature walks and more. If being outdoors isn't your thing, I also have a few indoor ideas, as well. You could watch a child-friendly performance, see an art exhibit, or go learn about the history of comic books. Go on, grab your kids, and have some fun this weekend.

Date Night at Chick-fil-A

Why Go: Moms, do you feel that you missed out when your hubby took your daughter to Chick-fil-A's held a special night for fathers and daughters? Well, now it's your turn. Register to take your son out for a one-of-a-kind experience this Saturday evening. The night will be made extra special with tablecloths, a professional photographer, take-home treats, giant spiral lollipops and more! You must register for this event. Legos, Legos, Legos!

What: Lego Challenge

Why Go: Does your child love Legos, or think he or she is the best Lego Builder there is? Perhaps, your child simply wants to sharpen those building skills? The Lego challenge at this Lilburn library is sure to please. No need to bring your own Legos; they will be provided. Just tell your child to bring his or her thinking cap and game face.

What: "Pete the Cat an Other Stories"

When: 10 a.m., Saturday, March 26

Why Go: This is an opportunity to expose your children to musical theatre through a child-friendly, interactive performance. Eric Litwin, famed children's performer and author, returns to Aurora's stage to enchant your children through his musical entertainment and dynamic story-telling skills. If your child is one of the lucky ones, he or she may be invited on stage to join in the fun.

Take a Sky Hike

What: Sky Hike at Stone Mountain Park

When: Park hours: 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., ongoing

Where: Crossroads at Stone Mountain Park, 1000 Robert E. Lee Drive, Stone Mountain, GA 30083. (770) 498-5690

Why Go: The Sky Hike ride at Stone Mountain opens for the season this weekend. It is just in time for all of this sunny weather! This family friendly adventure will have you climbing up and over all kinds of crazy obstacles, such as woven nets, a tight rope, wooden bridges, and much more. Your quarter-mile adventure may be easy (12 feet high), medium difficulty (24 feet high), or challenging (40 feet high).  Wear your closed-toe shoes and the safety harnesses provided.

Pricing: Tickets are $14 for all ages 3 and older. Must be at least 44 inches to participate. The Sky Hike is also included in park membership or one-day passes. (Vehicle admission is $10 - $20.)

See an Art Exhibition

What: "Innocence" is an acrylic painting series by local artist, H.C. Warner

When: Tuesdays - Fridays, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.; *March 26- May 14

Why Go: This art exhibition, by Avondale Estates artist and gallery owner, H.C. Warner, is a colorful and exciting way to introduce your children to art and design. Warner uses child-like themes to express both the innocence of childhood and the loss of innocence upon reaching adulthood. His paintings are thoughtful, whimsical, colorful, and engaging for all ages. Visit his online gallery for a sneak peek.

Pricing: Free, but donations are accepted

*Additional Notes: Public gallery opening for this exhibit is 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., March 26, during the city of Stone Mountain’s art stroll.

Festival Fun

What: 30th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival

When: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., March 26-27

Where: Georgia International Horse Park, 1996 Centennial Olympic Parkway, Conyers, GA 30013

Why Go: This festival began as a way to encourage culture in the community and has blossomed into something much, much more. Set against the beautiful backdrop of blooming Japanese Cherry trees, this festival is full of music, dance, crafts, games, food, and more. Take a drive, enjoy the weather, and head out to this once-a-year event!

Pricing: $5, parking fee for one day, or $8 for a two-day parking pass. No admission fee. No pets allowed.

Take a Nature Walk

What: Nature Fun at Panola Mountain 

Where: Panola Mountain State Park, 2600 Highway 155, SW, Stockbridge, GA 30281. (770) 389-7801

When: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. (or dark)

Why Go: Enjoy the pleasant weather this weekend, and take your family out for a nature walk, bike ride or fishing. This state park boasts a 100-acre granite outcrop, paved trails for biking, open fields, wooded areas, picnic tables, playgrounds and more. The visitor's center and Nature Museum will help your family learn all about the natural world preserved at this park. Guided hikes are also available.

Pricing: $5 parking fee

See Comic Book History

What: The Golden Age of Comic Books Exhibition

When. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Mondays – Thursdays; 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Fridays; 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., Sundays. Now through April 24.

Why Go: Do your little super heroes love all things caped, masked, or super-power filled? Is Superman, Batman or Captain America a part of your child’s daily life? Do your children know any of the rich history behind those characters? Do you? Well then, come educate yourselves at this travelling, comic exhibition. Learn about the creative artists and writers behind the classic superheroes. 

Pricing: Free for children ages 3 and younger, Ticket prices are $4 - $8, depending on age. Group discounts are also available.
