Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

What's Going On at Northlake Parkway & Lawrenceville Highway?

Y'all are beatin' my door down asking for the scoop on what's going to be constructed at the corner of Northlake Parkway and Lawrenceville Highway.

I, too, have been excited to get to the bottom of it.  It's always so fun to imagine what could be added to the community.

So, it's my DISpleasure to inform you that what's coming to Tucker in that location is...

A RACETRAC gas station.

(silence)

It's a buzzkill for me - and also for QT who is right across the street from them.

SO, let's talk about the SEARS buildings next, then!

I was SO hoping for something like a Trader Joes...the last thing that road needs is another gas station!

Racetrac is better than anothe pawn shop and the run down mess it was

Agreed, that a Racetrac isn't the end of the world. But, it's just not very exciting. And, with the QT right there, too.....snoozefest!

But is it a 'nextgen' Racetrac?? They have more food and drink options than the usual Racetrac or usual QT.

Several gas stations have already gone in there and failed... why oh why couldn't it have been something new? But... at least it isn't a hell tower!

Why in the world is Racetrac moving there? The QT across the street isn't even one of the busier ones, so I don't see any need for another giant gas station.

It was never going to be a TJ's we don't fit their demo...

So many people were hoping for a Trader Joe's. That would have been great.

Yes, Cherly, I agree. I'll take a gas station over that, for sure.

Not sure what's being built at Briarcliff and Clairmont, but it also looks like a gas station. Another bummer.

Hi, David. We've covered that a little bit over on North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch. It's a big QuikTrip gas station and market. Compared to what could go there, I suppose it's a bummer, but it'll probably be an improvement for that place. It's a bit grungy, no?

I suspect traffic will be much worse than ever--and bad there already on the Clairmont side. Keep fingers crossed.

Why did the last gas station place close? The guy that ran it was very nice. We always went there. Then one day we saw tape around it.

@Jonathan, yes I would have to agree, and I hope for the best for that entire area. Nothing against a QuickTrip...just not the "romantic" choice I was hoping for.

It is such a great location for a gas station which is why the previous four? five? that were there bit the dust!

I'd keep your eye on Northlake Parkway--strange place. last time GoDeKalb.com had a blog item on the strip club, it generated almost real-time street reports and links to corruption.

Are they tearing down the old Pike's, or just the gas station?

A few years ago a developer wanted to build some housing on that stretch of road, with some retail stores where the gas station was. There was a public hearing at the rec center, which I attended. The opposition from nearby homeowners was vicious, and frankly, quite baffling. They came right out and said they preferred an abandoned building and a gas station to some new homes and a coffee shop.

Well it looks like now they will get cars slamming doors, radios pumping music and occasional car alarms all during the night instead of home owners.

has anyone noticed all the cameras on the new traffic lights in Tucker? What is that for and can you watch them?

Those are there so that if you run a light, they can mail a ticket to you! (which I've heard is really not enforcable since they can't prove who was DRIVING the car.) If you get one of those tickets, I would fight it. Can't hurt.

And, I wonder if this new gas station will advertise on their sign out front that they sell "blunts" like the last station did. That was a nice touch.

Those cameras are for monitoring traffic only. They will not flash your tags. Massive screens are setup to monitor the flow of traffic.
