'Star Trek Into Darkness' Draws Mixed Critics' Reviews

Tucker Farmers' Market Features Musician Andy Liechty

Tucker Famers' Market on May 9 will have more than 35 amazing local food vendors, plus...music by Andy Liechty. Liechty is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter who stays true to his roots honoring his heroes in every performance. He draws from a wide variety of influences such as Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, Elvis Presley, Pearl Jam and Neil Young. Sound provided by Atlanta Musicians Exchange, who will be on hand with instruments for sale.  Atlanta Music Education's musical petting zoo with hands-on style instruments for kids to try out. It's Ukulele Night in Tucker

Lovers of the oddball instrument are invited to an 'open mic' at Greater Good Barbecue.

Ukuleles – those small four string Hawaiian instruments – are popping up everywhere these days. Uke lovers who want to show their stuff have found a home in Tucker at the Greater Good Barbecue on the first Thursday of every month, starting today, May 2. That’s when it holds its monthly 'open mic' night, hosted by local country folk string band Woven Pines. The event gives ukulele players a chance to perform in public on the Greater Good stage before family, friends and community members. Imam to Lead Discussion After "Koran By Heart" Film at Northlake-Barbara Loar

The presentation is part of the Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys series.

Viewers of the film "Koran By Heart" at Northlake-Barbara Loar library on May 6 can take part in a discussion afterward led by Imam Plemon T. El-Amin, Imam Emeritus of the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam. "Koran By Heart" is a documentary about Muslim children around the world who compete in Egypt's International Koran Reading Competition. The program, scheduled from from 6:30-8 p.m. May 6,  is part of the The Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys series, which is a project of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Northlake-Barbara Loar is located at 3772 LaVista Rd. in Tucker.

Winning PEEPs Contest Entry Honors Work of Habitat for Humanity

Winner Stacie Stamper: "Everybody has a way to give."

  The winner of the Patch Easter PEEPs contest is a diorama that shows a little marshmallow figure in a hard hat helping to build a home while other PEEPs cheer him (or her?) on.  The entry by Stacie Stamper honors the work of the Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, which helps support the nonprofit’s mission to provide decent housing for low-income people around the world.  "That's so exciting. How fun is that?" Stamper said when she learned that her entry had won. Second place goes to Martin Burrow of Winder, who used jelly beans and a glass jar to create a colorful PEEPs floral arrangement. Stamper, a Duluth resident, is the donations coordinator for the Gwinnett Habitat ReStore in Lawrenceville. Habitat ReStores take donations of …

Tom Cruise's 'Oblivion' is a 'Moderately Clever Mindbender'
