Wrestling will not be eliminated. The political pressure exerted by the wrestling community has already begun to build and will culminate in reinstatement. The previous vote will come to be viewed as a colossal misstep on the part of the IOC.

Don't care one way or the other; however, how will the elimination of this sport affect Title 9 in our public schools? Will another boys sport be added? Do the ladies wrestle? Folks, it all comes down to money......will the TV networks cover it? If not, it'll probably be eliminated. Wrestling, to me, is kinda like watching paint dry.

I can't imagine eliminating a still-viable sport that was one of the foundation sports of the original Olympics in Greece. Am I so cynical these days that I immediately believe it's because of some corporate, profit-making motive that isn't being satisfied? Some arrogant sponsor decision?

Bull - you are obviously only speaking for yourself and everyone has different tastes. I have absolutely no interest in "synchronized" anything, and think swimming is boring. But I wrestled myself and love the sport. The groundswell of support for wrestling around the world should be enough to tell you that many do enjoy the sport, and my guess is it will be reinstated.

As a former HS and College wrestler, my opinion is bias. For most legitimate wrestlers (i.e. no WWF or other clowns), the Olympics are your Super Bowl. It represents the pinnacle of the sport. For many wrestlers, it starts in elementary or middle school. Although it is looked upon as a team sport due to the format of cumulative scoring, it is the only sport that truly puts one on a solo stage as a combatant proving your worth and laying it all on the line for both personal and team achievement. In eastern European countries, Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling are national sports and, in their individual views, equal in status to the NFL, NBA or MLB. Best of all, a wrestler doesn't have to be 6'6", 300lbs. to be able to compete on an equal basis due to all matches being set-up according to weight class. Yes, maybe the average American considers Olympic-style wrestling to be not all that exciting. But, on a world-wide basis, it is considered to be a major athletic endeavor. If TV ratings and sponsorship money are the factors which were significant factors in wrestling being initially eliminated from 2016, then the international governing bodies of the sport need to do a much better job of marketing the sport's stars in order to increase view participation and enhance sponsorship possibilities.

Well said Steven. I'm also admittedly biased, and I find wrestling to be one of the most exciting sports. Personally, I find most of the swimming and running events to be boring, and the idea of adding synchronization to anything is utterly meaningless as far as I'm concerned. But I respect that others enjoy it, and there are kids all over the world training for these events and I'd hate to see them taken away.

The worldwide effort to keep wrestling in the Olympics is massive, and my hope is this situation will end up being a marketing coup for the truest sport that exists (my opinion).

I think wrestling was part of the original Olympic venue...way back in hysterical times of the first Olympics. So why remove it?
