Nearly 200 participants came to see if they could outrun the police for the inaugural Beat the Badge 5k on Saturday.
The 3.2 mile race, which started at 9 a.m., began at LaVista Rd. in Tucker and ended outside the Dekalb Police headquarters off West Exchange Pl.
Runners of all age groups were allowed to participate in the event with plaques being awarded to the top times in 19 different categories.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Dekalb Police Alliance, a non profit organization that helps support all Dekalb County law enforcement officers, by promoting safety, developing public support and providing training, educational rebates and life insurance policies.
