Two Tucker Schools Awarded Title I Distinction
Brockett and Nesbit elementary schools will receive certificates.
Two schools in Tucker have been named Title I Distinguished Schools by the Georgia Department of Education, it was announced Thursday.
Brockett Elementary School and Nesbit Elementary School are both part of the group that received certificates for making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for three consecutive years.
Schools that have made AYP eight or more years receive a monetary award, which comes from federal funds.
Title I schools have significant populations of students who are economically disadvantaged, according to the announcement. These schools receive federal money to help with the education of their students.
“Our teachers, students and administrators work diligently each day to achieve academic excellence and student success,” said DeKalb County Schools Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson in the school system's announcement. “Their efforts have not gone unnoticed and I am encouraged by their progress.”
