Frances Claire Lippy, a senior at Tucker High School, is one of 13 graduating students from DeKalb County schools receiving a $1,000 Gladys Cook Scholarship.

The honor was given by the DeKalb County Council of PTAs to be used toward the students' college education.

This year marked the 50th Anniversary of the Gladys Cook Scholarship. Ms. Cook, a former DeKalb PTA Council president, founded the scholarship in 1962. Ms. Cook and DeKalb Schools Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Atkinson presented the scholarships during the Council of PTA’s annual Spring Scholarship Awards Dinner on April 12.

“I want to congratulate each of the wonderful students recognized by the Council of PTAs and the Gladys Cook Scholarship,” Dr. Atkinson said. “One of our slogans is, ‘Miracles Happen in DeKalb Schools Every Day!’ These students and their inspiring stories are outstanding examples of those miracles.”
