Tucker High School student Lewis Makor is one of two Georgia recipients of a 'Rising Star' college scholarship, presented on Saturday during a pre-show ceremony at Cirque Du Soleil's Totem.

Makor will now become the first member of his family to attend college, where he plans to study business and psychology. He also hopes to play soccer at the collegiate level.

The scholarships are awarded through the Sun Life Rising Star Awards program, which will provide $110,000 in grants and scholarships to Atlanta students and nonprofit organizations this year.

Sun Life Financial U.S. President Wes Thompson said, “It’s a privilege to reward these incredible students who have persevered in the face of adversity and stayed committed to furthering their education. We believe they need only opportunity and support to realize their full potential.”
