'Save Tucker' Meeting Monday

Starts at 7:30 on Main Street.

A community meeting will be held tonight, March 18 at Tucker First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 7:30 p.m. regarding the "Lakeside City" proposal.

This meeting offers to give as much information as possible to be prepared for the March 25 meeting at Tucker Middle School.

Michelle Penkava of Livsey School will be one of the leaders for tonight's meeting.

I received this on the 19th of March... a day late... I would have been there. I am a native Tucker woman with many ties to Tucker and do not want to see this happen.
Please post earlier the meetings as I have the March 25th and April 1 meetings on my calendar. The meeting on April 1 is at Clairmont Presbyterian church and that is not anywhere near TUCKER. Lakeside is a High School not a community like TUCKER. Thank you, Linda Harlan Trotter

Linda, there was glitch in the system, added to the fact the meeting was only announced yesterday. It was not supposed to be in this morning's newsletter. Still, last night's meeting was a preliminary for the one on March 25, which Patch will be covering in detail, with a live commentary for those unable to attend in person.

I kindly have to agree with the above comment, too often events are posted on the day of the event. It would be helpful to be given more advance notice in announcements.

If people give me enough notice of events, I'm happy to comply. Better yet, Patch makes it easy for readers to post their own events whenever they like: http://tucker.patch.com/events/new
It's quick and free!

I'll suggest that there is one heck of a lot more energy and urgency from Tucker folks than others now that the "Tucker Issue" is on the boards. In fact, I heard in another meeting last night that State Rep Michele Henson has a map for a Tucker Incorporation (and Oliver has a three-city map--my favorite concept, if there are any in th cards).

So basically, Lakeside City Alliance has done everyone a huge favor by engaging this issue. The Alliance is also an "attractor" for established and EMERGING (very important) neighborhood and community groups to energise themselves and identify who they represent. A "community infrastructure" and "centers of affection" will result--something that has been sorely needed and made obvious by the struggles of Northlake Community Alliance to do same.

One thing I pointed out in Scott Holcome's Town Hall last night is that the Legislature (law formed for Sandy Springs) has no mechanism for adjudicating negotiations between several proposed "placeholder bills". Essentially those assholes (sorry, but really, their recalcitrance demands the term) will leave it up to us to fight between ourselves and face either destroying local good will or finding a way to overcome their cynical manipulations.
(BTW--all tough legislation that involves pissing people off is left to local constitutional amendments that create riffs with our neighbors--TSPLOST and all city-making bills are that way).

This of course, is the crime here--irrepsonsible legislation that bypasses the counties, works with non-governmental groups to foment distrust with local governments--and doesn't create a smooth transition from city-like services delivered by counties to fully mapped-out (land use policy) adjacent cities ocross the county.

If several bills are filein the legislature this year iit wil up to the committee to amend and review the bills to produce bills to be vote on in a referendum that don't overlap,

You seem to be saying that the bills cannot be amended after they are inroduced. Believe they can be. Maps changed so they don't ver lap in area.
