UPDATE: 'Rivers Alive' Returns in October
A reminder about the next event.
The Tucker Civic Association, in conjunction with RIVERS ALIVE, sincerely thanks you for stepping up to volunteer for the first time, or as a returning volunteer in the Fifth Annual Rivers Alive Clean Up. Your past participation has been a valuable part of our success.
Even if you don't know exactly how many people (besides yourself) will be coming this year, we'd still like to know if you're coming. It's important for planning purposes. Take a moment now and reply with a YES or NO.
This year’s event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 4315 Cowan Road, Tucker, GA (two buildings to the right of the Ace Hardware) from 9 a.m. – 12 noon. *Heavy rain date is Saturday, Oct. 20 at the same time.
This year we have a very special surprise! For the art enthusiast, we will be repurposing wood dumped near the creek. We’ll have an area set aside for building and painting crafty message boards saying things like KEEP OUR CREEKS CLEAN!, etc. We’ll be hanging these signs along the trail later in the month. Email us if you’re interested in helping to create and later hang these signs.
Please plan to arrive by 8:45 a.m. to sign-in, hand-in your completed waiver, hear some very important information about this year’s clean-up, pick up your trash tally cards, and get your team assignments. WHEW!! Lots to hear. Lots of free parking is available next door at the Women’s’ Shelter and across the street at the funeral home (both also closed).
For your protection from poison ivy, ants, etc., please wear closed-toed boots or shoes, long-sleeved shirts, hats, and long pants. Never work alone; always have a buddy or team mate with you. Bring work gloves, sunscreen, and tools such as loppers and or garden clippers (if you have them).
There is a large hornets’ nest off the main trail which we will have cordoned off, but you need to be aware of this hazard. If you think or know that you may have an allergic reaction if stung, please bring your EpiPen. We have alerted EMTS who are well-stocked, and will have a Bee-Keeper on hand as well. What an opportunity to learn!
We will be supplying water and Gatorade, but you can bring your own water if you’d like. Breakfast items and lunch will be provided courtesy of Publix, Roly Poly and Firehouse Subs. After lunch, come and get your T-Shirts, bookmarks, and gift coupons. Stick around for some raffle prizes. During this event you’ll be treated to great music by one of our local musicians – MOTIVATIONAL MUSIC TO CLEAN BY!
Remember, we’ll also have a sign-making ART station where we’ll use the dumped wood and plastic to make “No More Littering”, “Be Kind to Nature! It’s Kind to You”, etc., so be sure to bring your creativity with you. Children under 10 who can’t participate in the clean-up can certainly help make signs.
Please forward this email to ALL members of your team ASAP and make sure they complete and bring the waiver. [Of course, if you’re not part of a group, fill our your waiver and bring it with you ~ better yet, get a group together of your own ~ it’s more fun that way anyway! If you haven’t provided your total headcount (as close as you can), please forward your count to volunteertca.com. It’s important so that we can plan adequately. We will be sending out one more REMINDER email as we approach Oct. 6.
We sincerely thank you for your participation and look forward to a successful cleanup. If problems or questions arise, please email Parks@TuckerCivic.org, volunteertca@gmail.com, or go to our website tuckercivic.org.
NOTE: All participants must be 10 years old or older. If you have a child younger than 10 years of age that you would like to bring, please contact us to see if we have a task for them - away from the clean-up area.
