Report: Franklin Stephens Quits Tucker Tigers

Tucker's head coach is headed to Lamar County in middle Georgia.

The AJC is reporting that the Tigers' head coach has accepted a new position at Lamar County, a Class AA school in middle Georgia.

Franklin Stephens led Tucker to its only football state championships in 2008 and again last season. His record in five seasons with the team is 64-6. During this period, Tucker had 13 all-state players including Josh Dawson, Chris Sanders (recently suspended from UGA), James Vaughters and Jonathan Davis.

Lamar County principal Derick Austin and Stephens go back a bit, which may explain the choice - they both played at Georgia Southern University in the early 1990s. Stephens played as a center and guard for the 1993 Southern Conference Champions.Β
