Rep. Scott Holcomb Meets With President Obama at Fort Stewart

Representative Scott Holcomb went to Fort Stewart today as a guest of the White House to watch President Obama sign an Executive Order protecting veterans, service members and their families.

The order aims to crack down on deceptive and misleading practices by educational institutions and will help enable service members, veterans and spouses make informed educational decisions.

, who served at Fort Stewart with the Third Infantry Division from 1998-2001 as a captain in the US Army JAG Corps, told Tucker Patch: "President Obama and the First Lady both stressed to the soldiers, veterans and their family members that they have their backs. They have long demonstrated that through their actions and today was yet another example."

Since the post-9/11 GI Bill became law, there have been reports of veterans, service members and their families being targeted by educational institutions that fail to provide quality education and use deceptive recruiting practices.

"We're going to keep on working every day to serve all of you as well as you have served this country," Obama told the crowd. "We’re going to bring an end to the aggressive - and sometimes dishonest - recruiting that takes place," he said. "The executive order I’m about to sign will make life a whole lot more secure for you and your families and our veterans - and a whole lot tougher for those who try to prey on you."

Rep. Holcomb said of today's visit: “As an Army veteran who began my active duty service with the 3rd Infantry Division fourteen years ago this month, I was very proud to return to Fort Stewart to meet with the President and First Lady. They have an enduring and unwavering commitment to our soldiers, veterans and their family members. I sincerely appreciate all that they do for our fighting forces.”

"I spoke with a number of soldiers after the visit and they had nothing but great things to say about the President's leadership as Commander in Chief," Holcomb added. "National security is a strength for President Obama and that was evident today at Fort Stewart."

Obama told the soldiers, "It’s a privilege to hang out with some of America’s finest - the ‘Dog-Face Soldiers’ of the Third Infantry Division. This is about making sure you succeed," he said. "Because when you succeed, our country succeeds. It’s that simple."
