Pedestrian Hit, Badly Injured in Rush Hour Accident
Lawrenceville Highway was closed to all traffic for at least two hours.
A 20-year-old man crossing Lawrenceville Highway at Main Street in Tucker was struck by a car and severely injured during Friday's evening rush hour.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, was taken by ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center where he is being treated for serious injuries. His present condition is unclear.
The driver of a green Honda Accord station wagon was being questioned by Special Operations police officers at the scene. The middle-aged man, who was shirtless, would not answer questions from Tucker Patch.
A witness said the driver took off his shirt to help stop the victim's bleeding. Another witness told Patch that the young man who was hit is an employee of Roly Poly and that he was on a break from work.
Police are trying to determine whether the driver or the pedestrian had the right of way at the time of the accident.
Lawrenceville Highway was shut down by police at the junction with Main Street and Idlewood Road for more than two hours. Rush hour traffic was diverted through various side streets.
