Home Invasion Victim Tells Her Story

The victim of a home invasion that led to Oak Grove Elementary being locked down has given details of the incident.

I was forwarded this email from several people across the Oak Grove community. It's from the home invasion/armed robbery that occurred in the 1700 block of North Akin Drive on Oct. 28. Pretty alarming stuff:

I had been meaning to touch base with all to make sure you were aware of the incident, but sounds like since Oak Grove School was on  lockdown the word got out quickly. I just want everyone to be safe and on alert. I don’t know if you heard the details, but I feel compelled to share them just so neighbors can be vigilant in case he strikes in our community again.

I had just pulled in to the garage and got something out of the trunk of my car. I carried it inside and while standing in the mudroom I lowered the garage door – as it was going down I saw him standing in the front yard right at the corner of the house staring at me. I immediately had a reaction and closed the mudroom door quickly and locked it as I was reaching up to arm our alarm, I heard the garage door stop and reverse and in a split second he kicked the door in on me, shoved me into the cubby and demanded my rings. Unfortunately it happened so quickly I wasn’t able to turn the alarm on. It wasn’t until after I gave him my rings that he pulled out a handgun from his jeans pocket. He pointed it at me and took me to the kitchen and made me lay face down on the floor – told me if I looked or moved he would shoot.

I wasn’t sure if he left the house, but thought he did. I finally got the nerve up to grab my cell phone and run to the bedroom. Apparently I made the 911 call at 1:43.

Here’s his description: black male about 5’8” to 5’9” stocky, muscular – he was wearing a yellow baseball style cap pulled down low just above his eyes and blue jeans. I can’t remember the color of his shirt. I believe he came and left on foot.
