The Greater Good Barbecue is living up to its name. The big fundraiser is today, Thursday, Jan. 10, benefiting employees of Handy Ace Hardware and their families after the catastrophic fire of Dec. 28.
The store's staff lost their jobs when a sudden fire destroyed the entire building and all its merchandise. The owners have vowed to rebuild.
A silent auction is also planned and there will be live music from 7 to 10 p.m. Greater Good manager Tracy Wrench told Patch that response so far has been extraordinary and that people keep making donations even before the fundraiser has begun. "One lady called me from Alpharetta asking what she could do," Wrench said.
"Someone else came in and just handed me an envelope, said 'good luck' and then left," Wrench said. It turned out to be a signed photograph of former president Jimmy Carter with a note from him wishing everyone success with the fund-raising effort.

It would be nice if this fundraising event had a great turn out for a good cause. Charity begins at home. And I think we all can relate to the employees who have seen their income disappear until they rebuild.
Looks like a good ALL DAY event including lunch, afternoon and dinner:
--silent auction including a signed photograph of Former President Jimmy Carter (could be a "steal" for the right buyer)
----Live music from 7 to 10 p.m.
Thanks to the Greater Good BBQ for being a great neighbor.
