Frugal Family: Shopping After-Christmas Sales
For those who haven't shopped enough already, here's the rundown.
I’d like to start this week’s column by saying that I hope those of you who celebrate Christmas had a very merry one, indeed. For me, it came a little quickly this year, and it’s hard to believe it’s already over. But, time rolls on, and to the Frugal Family crowd, it’s time to snatch up those post-holiday deals. Here’s the rundown:
Target’s weekly ad features electronics and storage solutions, primarily. They are offering a free $75 Target gift card with the purchase of a PS3 or Xbox 360 bundle ($299.99), as well as a $50 coupon toward any digital camera when you trade in your old one. Plastic storage bins (including wreath boxes, gift wrap boxes, and ornament boxes) are $7, with several other sizes and prices available. Toys R Us has all movies and video games buy one, get one 40% off. If you choose to buy online, they’re offering free shipping on all purchases $75 or more. They’re offering a free $50 Toys R Us gift card with Tablet purchases of $250 or more and a $25 gift card with Tablet purchases of $249.99 or less (excludes Kindle). Thomas Wooden Railway Accessories, Fisher-Price Little People, Mega Blocks construction sets, Crayola Color Wonder and Color Explosion, Leapfrog, VTech, and more are all buy one, get one 50% off. Walmart is offering 50% off select Christmas candy, toys, and seasonal home décor items. Holiday storage solutions are on sale, as well, with the gift wrap tote, the wreath box, and the light wrap latch tote (for light strands) on sale for $7.47 each. Ornament box with dividers is $9.47.
Publix and Kroger, of course, have traditional New Year’s food items on sale this week. Publix is offering Korbel champagne for $10.99 a bottle, shrimp trays at 30% off, and boneless pork loin for $1.99/lb. 16-oz bags of Glory greens (kale, turnip, mustard, or collard) are $1.00 each, and shelled black-eyed peas are buy one, get one free ($3.69 per 12-oz. package). At Kroger, boneless pork loin is $2.49/lb. and Boston pork butt is $1.79/lb. Kroger milk is $3.18/gallon (limit 4). Korbel champagne is $10.99 with several other varieties also on sale.
