Does DeKalb County Need a New School Superintendent?
Tucker parents have been watching the school system's travails for months. Now, Patch wants your opinion on Cheryl Atkinson.
It was a hot topic on Twitter this past Friday, and speculation continues that DeKalb School Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson might soon resign her position or be replaced by the embattled DeKalb Board of Education.
The DeKalb Board of Education was set to choose a new chair and vice chair on Monday, but adjourned without doing so. Its next meeting is on Wednesday, Feb. 6, and Atkinson's tenure with the system may come up during the meeting.
Tucker parents have been following DeKalb's school system troubles for months, and now Patch wants to know: do you believe our local school system needs a new superintendent? Is Atkinson the best person for the job, or is new leadership needed?

It's a little hard to vote when the voting is closed an hour after the article was posted......

She was superintendent of a failing school system thanews one third the size of DeKalb. Her only solution to DeKalb's issues is to close successful schools and create mega-elementary schools with 900 students, an approach that is a proven failure. She should not have been hired in the first place. She is not qualified.

Mr. Darnell,
You must be new to Dekalb County if you think we have only been "following DeKalb's school system troubles for months". I won't hold it against you, but please don't make that mistake again.
Why don't you ask a Tucker local how we got moved up from seventh position to first position on the list of high schools to be replaced. That is a story of greed, graft, & corruption that should be told if only as a cautionary tale.

Dekalb school system has been deteriorating for the last 20 years. One only has to look at the people running it to determine why. It would never occur to me to place my child in that system, no--private schools only. If you can't afford them, don't live in Dekalb.
