High School Blood Drive Honors Slain Coach

Bill Venable and his son Billy were killed during a 2004 home invasion.

Tucker High School is hosting the ninth annual Red Cross Blood Drive in honor of Coach Bill Venable and his son, Billy. They were killed in January of 2004 when an intruder broke into their home and shot them.

It takes place at the school on Thursday, Jan. 24 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

From the Red Cross: Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Most healthy people age 17 and older, or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets. Donors who are 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements. Call 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to learn more about giving blood or platelets or to schedule an appointment to donate.
