The week's Patch Readers' Choice for Best Sweet Tea has a clear winner: Matthews Cafeteria, the venerable mainstay on Main Street snapped up 43 percent of the votes, followed by Old Hickory House with 15 percent.
Matthews has been doing pretty much the same thing at the same location since 1955. Tucker Patch reporter Nancy Ross wrote an article about the place last year in which she described it well: "Many people eat at Matthews twice a day and a few sturdy souls go there for all three daily meals. On an average day, there are between 1800 and 1900 hundred people served," she wrote, adding that "people return in droves. Visiting Matthews is like a trip back into the values of the fifties."
The runner-up, Old Hickory House, goes back even further, to 1953, but not at this particular location on Northlake Parkway. It is know primarily for its barbeque.
On Monday we unveil our next Reader's Choice poll, and we'll be asking you to pick the best place in Tucker to get your taxes done at the last minute. Be sure to join in and let us know!
