Tucker students making waves in higher education.

A wrap-up of recent achievements by students from Tucker:

Precious Anika West was the second runner-up in the prestigious Miss Brenau scholarship competition Feb. 4 at Brenau University, the 134-year-old women's college in Gainesville, Ga. She is a freshman majoring in musical theater.

"She also has entries under Music and Drama Achievements for being cast in the Gainesville Theatre Alliance’s production of Hairspray and assisting with James & The Giant Peach and The Grapes of Wrath," said Tachelle Shelton, West's mother, who told Tucker Patch that her daughter has a 3.1 grade average and is on the new Competitive Cheerleading team.

Also at Brenau, Tykeria C. Parker was named to the Merit List for academic performance during the fall term of 2011-12 academic year. Parker, whose major is mass communication, is a junior. Kelsey Elizabeth Biernath, a sophomore at Brenau whose major is liberal studies, was named to the Dean's List.

Rachel Harber, a student at Decatur High School, has been selected to represent Georgia as a National Youth Delegate at the 2012 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University.

Harber has been awarded opportunity to join a select group of 250 students from across the country to participate in an intensive study week-long of leadership in environmental science and conservation. Harber was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in leadership in the sciences and conservation studies.

Erin Seal and Susan Williams were recognized by Georgia Southern University for excellence in academics on the 2011 Fall Semester Dean's List. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have at least a 3.50 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.

Georgia Southern also recognized three other Tucker students on the 2011 Fall Semester President's List. They are Lauren Hollis, Katherine Morgan, and Elizabeth Rucker. To be eligible for the President's List, a student must have at least a 4.0 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.

Eugene R. Rusiecki of Tucker has received a master of science degree in engineering and global operations management from Clarkson University.

Nathan Townshend, a junior Accounting major at Grove City College, has been named to the Dean's List with High Distinction for the fall 2011 semester. Nathan is a 2009 graduate of Killian Hill Christian School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Townsend from Tucker.

Mike Weaver has been named to the dean's list for the fall term at Centre College, an honor reserved for students who maintain at least a 3.60 grade point average. Weaver is the son of Sandra Weaver of Tucker and Norman Weaver of Norcross and is a graduate of .

The Georgia Institute of Technology presented degrees to the following local undergraduate and graduate students during the Institute's 241st commencement exercises: Spencer Brien received a Ph.D in Public Policy/Joint Program. Elizabeth Eckman received a BS in Business Administration. Long Tran received a BS in Civil Engineering. Wendy Wise received a MBA-Global Business. Yahao Wu received a BS in Computational Media. 

Caitlin Marie Raines of Tucker has been named to the Dean's List at Clemson University for the fall 2011 semester. Raines is majoring in Nursing.

A junior at Hampden-Sydney College, Alexander Robert Boal, was named to the Dean's List for the Fall semester of the 2011-2012 academic year. Boal is a graduate of Chamblee High School and is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Robert K. Boal of Tucker.

John Raymer graduated from Missouri University of Science and Technology during the Commencement ceremony held in the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building on campus in December. Raymer earned a bachelor of science degree in geological engineering magna cum laude.

At Samford University's Cumberland School of Law, Laura Allison Akins was named to the Dean's List for the fall semester.
